Joseph King Kong Agbeko congratulates and thanks the new President Abraham Kotei Neequaye and the entire executive board of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), On the launch of new title belts, car and a website last Thursday 18th November,2021.

The former International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion at the launch which was held at the Mudor conference Centre of the Trust Emporium in Bukom Boxing Arena vehemently expressed the need that getting credible opponents for boxers would help prepare them for world championships when the opportunity arrives.

Ghanaian boxers have been criticised for engaging in walkover bouts which in turn gives them away on the international stage against credible opponents.

Agbeko emphatically said ,he  does not blame boxers for avoiding certain opponents because he believes some managers and promoters push them to dodge certain opponents, which is not good for our sport.

Joseph Agbeko speaking on behalf of active boxers said, anytime there is an issue between a boxer and a manager, automatically it will be conclude that the boxer is at fault. This should not be the case he stated. Many a time managers are the ones at fault.

He further added that promoters and managers must see boxers as business partners not as helping partners. He urged promoters and managers to treat boxers as their own spouse, children and love ones and willingly invest properly to help promote the sport.

The former champion urged the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) with the new president Mr. Abraham Kotei Neeqauye and as well as all stakeholders of the Boxing Fraternity to seek the welfare of boxers because without them there will be no boxing and the sport can not function.
