The much awaited Ghana Professional Boxing League commenced on Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

Twelve (12) gyms are ready to battle each other to stay in shape for any title defense of a Ghanaian boxer. After Twenty weeks of boxing ,the best boxer and best gym will take home a Renault Kwid each.

The first fight of the day was between Isaac Sackey and Isaac Taylor in the Super Bantamweight division but Isaac Sackey was too strong for Isaac Taylor although they went to the full rounds of the fight. It was a unanimous decision in favor of Isaac Sackey.

Emmanuel Dekeh also defeated Michael Osunla Osumanu in his debut fight in the Heavyweight division with a unanimous decision win. The Flyweight contest ended in round two after Daniel Otoo who showed excellent ringcraft in round one only not to answer the bell for round two against Adam Salanon.

The Super Lightweight division has cracked boxers and John Quaye was the fans favourite against Stephen Addy who is a debutant. John Quaye showed ringcraft, handspeed and timing to win over Stephen Addy in a unanimous decision. In the other Super Lightweight contest enterprising Azumah Mohammed made light work on Patrick Cudjoe who he stopped in round one.

The last fight of the day was between Michael Tagoe vs Alexis Kabore in the super bantamweight contest, which was a massive fight between these two boxers with good exchanges and hand speed . Alexis Kabore stopped Michael Tagoe in the Seventh round after he refused to answer the bell for the last round. It was due to a dislocation of the hand.

Abraham Kotei Neequaye ( GBA,Pres.), Mr. Maxwell Takyi( Ceo, IMax Media), Mr.Jihad Hijazi ( Ceo,Premier Motors), Mr. Fadi Fattal ( MD, IMax Media), Mr.Yaw Ampofo Ankrah ( Head of Sports, IMax Media) and Hon.Sheikh Mohammed Amin Lamptey ( Comms.Director, GBA), Mr John Manfo and Mr Daniel Ayikwei ( Board Members, GBA).There were other dignitaries who graced the ocassion.

The next fight night is in two weeks from now. Ghana Professional Boxing League has come to stay and massive publicity to the Ghana Boxing Authority and also IMax Media for this collaboration.
